A memorial proposal honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King in Boston, developed within the Wodiczko + Bonder collaboration and carried into international publication and exhibition.
A memorial to the Kings has to hold a national civil-rights legacy and a local, lived history at once. The design problem was one of translation: turning complex historical, political, and cultural meaning into a public place that diverse audiences can enter, read, and take ownership of.
Served as Designer and Director of Design and Content within the Wodiczko + Bonder collaboration, working alongside artist Krzysztof Wodiczko and architects Julian Bonder and Maryann Thompson. Scope spanned concepting, branding, architectural design, environmental design, landscape design, and information graphics. The project was published and exhibited internationally as part of a body of memorial work that includes the completed Mémorial à l'Abolition de l'Esclavage in Nantes, France.
